Meet Emmanuel Onuorah, Founder of Imoju Eyewear

My name is Emmanuel Onuorah, founder of Imoju, a proudly Nigerian eyewear brand built on a simple belief: seeing well and looking good should feel effortless.

Although the idea for Imoju came to me earlier this year, my connection with eyewear began long before the brand existed. Growing up, my father was an eyewear vendor, and some of my earliest memories were spent in his shop alongside my older brother.

We watched customers walk in looking for more than just a pair of glasses. They were looking for comfort, clarity, confidence, and something that made them feel good about themselves. Those experiences stayed with me and eventually became part of the foundation of Imoju.

Why Imoju?

As someone who wears prescription glasses myself, eyewear has always been personal to me. Over the years, I came to appreciate how much the right frame can influence the way someone looks and feels.

My father often told me that I had a good eye for eyewear. While I wouldn’t describe myself as a fashion enthusiast, I have always understood the difference a well-chosen frame can make to someone’s confidence and self-expression.

The name Imoju comes from the Yoruba language and means “to see.”

For me, seeing is about more than vision. It represents clarity, confidence, perspective, and experiencing life through a better lens.

Building Something Different

The inspiration behind Imoju came from observing the Nigerian eyewear industry.

I noticed that many eyewear brands were beginning to look and feel the same. Similar products, similar presentation, and similar experiences made it difficult for customers to connect with a brand beyond the product itself.

I saw an opportunity to create something different.

Imoju was created to be more than a place to buy glasses. It was created to build a lifestyle around simplicity, thoughtful design, confidence, and community.

Our Approach to Eyewear

At Imoju, we believe eyewear should be simple, stylish, comfortable, and accessible.

Our approach to minimalism is not about taking things away for the sake of it. It’s about creating eyewear that fits naturally into everyday life—frames that are sleek, convenient, comfortable, and easy to wear without sacrificing style.

We create eyewear for people of different ages and styles who appreciate products that look good, feel great, and remain accessible.

When someone puts on an Imoju frame, I want the experience to be simple:

Our philosophy is simple: quality over quantity.

Every decision we make is guided by that principle.

The Journey Hasn’t Been Easy

Like many entrepreneurs, building Imoju has come with its share of challenges.

One of the biggest has been repeatedly losing access to social media accounts that played an important role in our growth. Each setback could have been a reason to stop, but I chose to keep moving.

I’ve learned that failure isn’t always the end of the road. Sometimes, it is redirection—an opportunity to learn, improve, and prepare for something greater.

Giving up was never an option.

My vision for Imoju goes beyond selling frames.

I want to build a community—a place where people connect through shared values, meaningful experiences, thoughtful design, and a love for simplicity.

Through events, gatherings, conversations, and the experiences we create around the brand, I want Imoju to become more than an eyewear company.

I want Imoju to become a movement built around clarity, simplicity, and self-confidence.
